Need advice to improve my slacking at work.

They don't have to be designed for solitaire play, just play well solo on VASSAL with no extra materials or complicated book keeping.

I enjoyed Paths of Glory immensely and actually think the VASSAL module might even beat out the real game. Fields of Fire and Ambush! are both great at home, but require too much extra stuff to keep track of on VASSAL in my opinion. Twilight Struggle also works well, but I don't care for it solo. So that's the limit of my VASSAL knowledge.

Please enlighten me.

Quite a few of the GBoH games have very nice VASSAL modules. Since there is almost no hidden information I like them for solo play.

Many of the modules are setup so that information can be displayed on the unit counter instead of stacking up piles of virtual informational counters.

Maybe I've just got GBoH on the brain though as I'm playing through my collection chronologically at the moment, and most of that is solo play.

It's a different era/scale than any of the stuff you mentioned though.

Fields of Fire isn't too bad. When I'm playing it via Vassal, I have a spreadsheet open for my roster, and a pdf of the module I'm playing, and a copy of the 2.1 Rules in the background just in case. It does take a bit of window swapping, but you get the hang of it pretty fast.

For other solo Vassal war games, there's also Thunderbolt/Apache, with missions taking a little over 30 mins each. I wanted to try the commercial Vassal modules from DVG (Hornet Leader, Phantom Leader, etc), but have heard of these are not being updated, and thus are no longer compatible with new versions of Vassal.

There's also a mess o' submarine and naval warfare solo games, but would probably be above your threshold for tracking information while at work.

After scanning the collection you've posted on BGG, I'd recommend ASL or Combat Commander: Pacific. I know the CC modules are pretty tight and slick. ASL - no brainer. That's why Virtual Advanced Squad Leader (VASSAL) was developed. :)

If you're using Vassal why not go the whole hog and play by email?

I have and do, just looking for some good solo options too.

Really? At home I had to make a 4X3 foot cork board with all the charts/tables, scenario specifics, order possibilities and LAT conditions all arranged. Paging through 3 double sided player aids, scenario book and rule book constantly was getting old. Maybe when I get better at it I'll give it another try.

I'm having a lot of fun soloing Red Winter, and the vassal module looks good too.

I was going to suggest this too but the Vassal module only has the Campaign scenario, right? If you want to play any of the scenarios, you can do to it yourself, it appears.

No, the latest version has them all.

I would recommend from big battles:
Great Battles of History series
Men of Iron or Infidel

And something medium and quicker:
Nuklear Winter '68

And something quite short and fun:
Space Infantry

Oh, and it's not a wargame, but I just discovered that someone made a solo Vassal-only card game based on Inception:

Inception - Solo card game

I grabbed the module but haven't played it yet, but it looks pretty damned cool.

You can grab the module here.

Silent War, or Steel Wolves. You could kill a lot of time with either of those.

I'm playing Roads to Gettysburg on vassal solo. It's great because the rules are pretty simple and the dice rolls for movement makes it nicely unpredictable.

Yup. Awesome game, awesome module.

Just a heads-up, that both of these modules require scenario documentation from the physical game, and are thus unplayable without these. Unless they're lurking online somewhere.
